English Nature 
Promotes the conservation of England's wildlife and natural features. It was set up in 1990 and is a statutory body funded by Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA). English Nature provides advice and information on nature conservation, designates important areas such as Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and administers the Local Nature Reserves scheme.

Paul Glendell 
Paul is a widely-experienced nature photographer who regularly works on commission from bodies such as the National Trust, Friends of the Earth and English Nature. It was for the last of these that he visited us in summer 2003. He has kindly loaned us some of his photographs of the Butterfly Garden, in Centenary Fields.

Green Light Trust 
Green Light Trust is an environmental charity formed in 1990. Its aim is to strengthen people's connection with nature through community action and creative education. The Trust's pilot project was Golden Wood, near Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk. This was the inspiration for its Community Woodlands projects, of which there are now 12. Nigel Hughes, one of its founders, was the main speaker at our Friends' evening in March 2003.

Lingfield and District Conservation Society 
This is a voluntary organization promoting high standards of planning, conservation and regeneration for the benefit of the local community. It was formed in 1970 and is affiliated to the Civic Trust.

Lingfield and Dormansland Community Centre 
Housed in the old junior school, this was refurbished in 2000 and is the main public meeting space in the locality. It also houses Lingfield Computer & Training Centre (LCTC), formerly the TeleCottage.

Lingfield and Dormansland Volunteer Bureau 
This puts people interested in volunteering for community work in touch with organizations looking for that kind of help. The bureau provides information and advice to would-be volunteers and good practice support and advice to organizations. It is a member of the National Association of Volunteer Bureaux.

Lingfield Army Cadet Corps 
Is part of a nationwide organization for young people aged 13 to 18. There are 1,700 Cadet detachments and units across the country, with a total of 50,000 members.

Lingfield Marathon Fun Run 
An annual fund-raising event that attracts around 400 competitors each year. Some participants take it seriously. The funds raised go annually to help local charities and groups. We are grateful to have been fortunate recipients of help from these in several years.

Lingfield Parish Council 
Previously joined with Dormansland Parish Council, Lingfield Parish Council carries out the usual range of tasks, including those relating to planning, provision of recreational facilities, halls, crime prevention, community transport, public lavatories, tourism and allotments. There is a list of Tandridge parish councils and their clerks available on the left of this page.

The Parish Council owns Centenary Fields.

Lingfield Primary School 
This coeducational school, part of Surrey LEA, is for children aged 4-11 years and has about 350 full-time pupils. It is, as its OFSTED report says, soundly led and managed, with an ethos that parents appreciate. The school buildings are close to the Wildlife Area, which the school uses for some of its outdoor lessons.
