Plants in the pond 2000 (photos)
Here, some of the marginal plants we planted that spring are showing themselves, in summer 2000. (See here for what we put in and why.)

Standing in the water are Yellow Iris (and by the revetment) and Marsh Marigold, with Brooklime straggling along in the right foreground. It all looks quite scruffy still, but that is to be expected in such heavy clay.

On the far side of the pond, in line with the Scout Hall window, is the overflow pipe. That leads off to the stream, behind the bund to the right. The water is about 2 feet down from its maximum level, well within the planned range.

A few months after this, the English equivalent of a monsoon began and everything was submerged until spring 2001.

And here is the view on the other side of the bridge, with some Meadowsweet in the foreground. It's clear from this how much more work we still need to do on the path.
